Port fees: Things happen – that’s life. Sometimes the ship will cancel a port. The Dominican Republic was cancelled on our trip and so we spent a third day in a row at sea. Long story short, we didn’t get to go to the island that we paid for. What do you do now? Go to Guest Services aboard the ship. They will fill out an electronic form which requests a refund for the port fees through travel insurance. They will give you a case number to follow up on the claim. Good luck!
Beverage package: I had the Unlimited Beverage Package(UBP). Just an FYI, when at all US ports you will be taxed for each drink. You will be charged an extra $1.20 or so per drink depending on the cost of the drink. For the Getaway this drink tax was changed in both Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
Spa: the showers have both a hand held water dispenser and a rain down water dispenser on the top. Turn the handle to both the right and left to choose for the water to come down from the top or from the hand held. The spa does not have lotion, qtips, hair products, brushes – nothing. It is very basic with only blow dryers, shampoo, shower gel, towels, and robes.
Syd Norman’s Karaoke: get there early if you want to sing. Most every night they “close signups” because they are already full 5 minutes before Karaoke is scheduled to start. Get there early and have a blast!
Dinner: dinner at the Tropicana, Savor, and Taste will always take about an hour and a half. It often takes 30-45 mins to get a drink when you sit down. I recommend stopping at the bar to grab your first drink beforehand and carry it in. This will speed up your experience. All three restaurants have the same menu as each other every night – there is no variance across restaurants. They do switch the menu for all three restaurants each night, though. So there is variance in menu options that way. It does not matter if you go to Taste or Savor they are the same. Tropicana is the same too although busier because they have shows.
